Your Guide to Achieving Physical Fitness

Physical fitness can have a lot of definition depending on who said it. But basically, most experts agree that to be physically fit is to be able to perform efficiently whether at work or play. It can also be seen as a state of being healthy. Being able to fight off hypokinetic diseases like obesity and other diseases of the body that is connected with obesity is also a sign of being physically fit.

If you’re someone who is newly introduced to the world of exercise, then it is a must that you go to a doctor first and have a check-up. Your doctor should be able to tell you if you have any complications of the heart or other organs that will prevent you from doing too much strenuous exercise. Don’t worry if your doctor tells you that you cannot jog or run too much or if you cannot engage in activities that will put too much strain on you. There are many other kinds of exercise that are still fun and effective but won’t put too much strain on your body.

If you are someone who wants to exercise in order to change that feeling of sluggishness and turn it into a sense of well-being, then the first thing you should remember is to have a healthy lifestyle. You can start by throwing away all your sugary drinks and confections in your fridge. But if you’re someone who craves sweets and sugar in general, then you should swap your soft drinks for something that’s still sweet but has less sugar like fruit smoothies or yogurt. If you crave for something that will help kick start your day, grab an apple instead of your usual coffee. An apple is said to give the same effects as caffeine but is definitely healthier.

A quick tip: while you’re exercising, as much as possible, avoid carbonated drinks as your source of re-hydration. These drinks will only make you feel thirstier in the long run.

Opt for sports drinks or sports supplements in liquid form. These will give you much a needed boost without the sugar. Just don’t drink too much of these supplements as it can be the opposite of beneficial if overdone. Some studies even suggest that some sports drinks can do damage to your body. But not all are like that, so make sure that when you buy a sports drink or supplement, it has a good reputation and that it really works to keep you alert.

Now, after all the necessary precautions and reminders are said, it is high time that you choose what kind of exercise you want to dive into. If you are interested in exercise that involves a fitness equipment or machine, then you might want to try Pilates. Pilates is a form of exercise wherein the phrase ‘mind over matter’ can be applied. But if you want an exercise program that combines physical health with spirituality, then you might want to consider taking yoga classes. A teacher and fellow yogi – one who practices yoga – will be able to properly instruct you better than a video could.

On your first day, don’t fret. As long as you wear the proper clothes – not too tight or too loose – and that you have the proper mind set, then in no time at all, you’ll be able to catch up with your fellow yogi’s and do the poses that you were set on doing. If you don’t do everything properly at the first time, it’s okay. You must remember that most people take a lifetime – about fifty years – to perfect some poses. So if you get something correctly after a few weeks – even if it’s a simple pose – congratulate yourself on a job well done.

Okay, so just remember that in the world of exercise, optimum fitness results can be achieved as long as everything – like drinking sports drinks or stretching – is done correctly and in moderation. Don’t forget to warm up and cool down before and after any form of exercise.

  1. Health And Wellness Magazine Says:

Perhaps another good advice is to apply protective sunscreen if you’re going for some outdoor activities or sports. We want the tan, but not the associated risks like skin cancer and problems.

    Awesome post!

    Cheers,
